First Round of Free Ride World Championship

From April 13 until April 15 2007', happened in Peniche/ Portugal, the First round of Free Ride World Chapionship. See how it was!<

After the first day of free and oficials trainings, the Free Ride World Championship, that happened in Peniche, at Supertubos beach, had ecstasy moments, with air acrobatics and surf of the higher level.

On Saturday, Jimmy Visser, a south-African 7 times World Champion, that this year sees his opponent, the Frenchman Pierre Maxient, vice-champion last year, returned to sobressair in the Sit-down category. In the Stand Up category, the bi-world champion Pierre Maxient returned to shine, followed by the Italian Frederico Buffachi and another Frenchman, Romain Stampers. The 16 best of Stand Up get the classification to the eighths finals on Sunday, and the fourths to the semi-finals of Sit-down. It's important to remember that the jury evaluate the pilots about the difficult level, beauty of the maneuver, wave approximation, risk level and fluidity of the performance.

In the last day of Portuguese round, the Freeride had one of the best days of radical sport history. Perfect waves of until 2,5 meters, sun all the day, big public and pilots showing an excellent quality of performances, over the expectation. One more time, this things became the first round very special.

One more time, Jimbo Visser showed his qualities, after pass the Spanish A. Arrizabalaga, passed again by a dispute with Pierre Maxient, in the final of Sit-down category, and won; the third place in the podium was occupied by another Spanish, Cristobal Bejeiro.

The Stand-up started a tense day, 16 pilots faced in eight batteries man-man, looking for the vacant of the quart-finals and semi-finals. Frenchmen faced more than one time, the Americans detached, the Brazilian A. Sampaio, Xan, and the Portuguese surprise Carlos Matos didn't advance more, the unexpected was the defeat of Pierre Maxient to Gil Beurnier, repeating what happened between them in the French round last year. In the quart-finals, the public saw the excellent American pilot Ross Champion wins the vice-world champion in the last year, Frederico Bufacchi, and became the favorite to the semi-finals, where he would face I. Sehn, that won the American M. Serlin. In the other semi-final G. Beurnier faced another American, Z. Waddle.

Ross Champion was with the jet in hand this Sunday, won Ivo with air acrobatics that conquered the public and defeated G. Beurnier with acrobatics that raised the public at Supertubos Beach; in the dispute for the third place, the Brazilian I. Sehn got the better and showed that is in good shape like in 2005, when was vice-champion.

Marcelo Brandão, Tchello, President of International Federation of Freeride Jet Ski (IFWA), the victory of Ross Champion was a surprise, but he deserved; Ross is not an anonym pilot to the specialized public, because he got the fourth place in the American round in 2005.
