Douglas Carvalho, 30 years old, was one of the pilots participants of 9th Jet Waves World Championship 2007, that happened between the 7 and September 9, 2007, in the Brave Beach. in Itajaí/SC. Checks!
Many can be the surprises in a freeride competition, as happened in 9th Jet Waves World Championship, which happened at the Brave Beach, in Itajaí, in Santa Catarina's state, between the 7 and September 9, 2007. The freerider Douglas Carvalho, thirty years old, surprising everyone when he made a double back flip (two complete turns back), an extremely complicated maneuver.
Douglas participates from second Jet Waves, what represents eight years of competition. Natural of Goiás/BR, he now lives in Belém, in Pará/BR, what complicates his trainings for not having access to the sea. That, practically only he practices freeride when he is going to the beach. As he doesn't have continuous training, he is in disadvantage, but he says: "For next year I hope to have more time to workout in the sea".
Even with difficulties to workout, he was already five times Brazilian champion of freestyle, vice-champion and third-place in the world of free professional style, five times champion from São Paulo; all those titles in the "flat". As a freerider, his best result was a fourth place in Jet Waves. He prefers the free ride, but the distance of the sea takes him for the free style.
He that accompanied from the beginning the work of Tchello, organizer of Jet Waves, is very satisfied with the organization and he says that are everybody of congratulations. He believes that, the work of Interlog in the championship only came to add, therefore they are very professional. For Douglas a lot has to be done and more for the sport goes up.
He adored the choice of the beach, since his mechanic lives in Camburiú that is close to Itajaí. Unassuming that is very pretty and the waves are favorable for to the freeride. "I hope we continue here for many years and that the sea continues offering those conditions for us", he says on the choice of the place that, according to him, in the other years it was not so good.
In relation to other championships that he participated, in Jet Waves is different. Unassuming that freeride competitions you don't need a jet as prepared as in the free style (the cost of a jet-ski for that modality can be about R$100.000,00).
For who wants to begin, according to Douglas, the first step is to know that the jet-ski is not a toy and a vehicle, and he says that the respect is fundamental: "Respect is today the word in the world that is the most important. He has to respect the nature, to know that he is stronger than we. To respect the swimmers, the surfers, everybody has his space. Then who wants to enter has to know that we live at a country, in a community and everybody has to respect before anything else".
Another important care is don't forget to remove the wallet to pilot in to the water and to workout a lot. "Because in any sport, 90% of training and 10% of talent ", he says. One of his main complaints is the lack of popularization of the sport and the wrong opinion that the people have on him. But one day that changes.
