See the tips that Sun Peaks website give us, about how to prepare ourselves for a day in the mountains. It's always good to review our way to dress, to have good moments, even the temperature oscillates.
What to Wear
Being comfortable and warm can make or break your day on the slopes. Follow these useful suggestions to ensure that you or your kids get the most out of the day.
Dress in layers
The layer next to your skin should consist of a thermal under wear layer. Synthetics, usually polyester, make the best base layer due to its wicking power. Wicking power means that fibers will wick (move) moisture away from your skin, and pass it through the fabric so it will evaporate.
The next layer is called the insulating layer. This layer is how you keep the heat in and the cold out. Sweater, sweatshirts, and vests work great. Good old wool is still a great choice of materials for this layer, but fleece also works very well.
The protection layer is the final layer, and serves as your guard against the weather. This layer should repel water from snow, sleet, or rain, and block the wind, while also letting perspiration evaporate. There is a wide variety of outerwear available, but always choose function and durability over fashion.
Acessories
Make sure you accessorize! An outfit is nothing without accessories, and on the hill it is even more important. Up to 60 percent of your body's heat can escape from an uncovered head, so wearing a toque, headband, or helmet is a must when it is cold.
Goggles protect your eyes from damaging solar radiation. On flat light days or when it is snowing goggles increase the contrast, so you can properly discern terrain features.
Look for gloves and mittens that use waterproof, breathable fabrics. Mittens are generally warmer, but offer less dexterity than gloves. Whether you choose gloves or mittens is a matter of personal preference.
When wearing ski boots or snowboard boots one pair of light weight to medium weight socks works best for skiing and snowboarding. A good pair of ski socks will generally cost you less than $20.00, but is considered an essential piece of clothing. Do not wear multiple layers of socks in your boots, because this will only cause discomfort.
Sunscreen is also very important given that we receive close to 2,000 hours of sunshine per year.
