Join with his friend Annelise, ?Mama?, Nei Maldaner goes to the top of Deep Cove Rock, a trail for all, a wonderful place, located on North Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Looking for new ways, and opportunities is one of the reasons to I pass this season in Canada. I’ve passed some weeks just studying at home, at an apartment in Vancouver downtown. Always connected, developing new resources to INEMA, and exchanging ideas of technology to SISNEMA.
So, have arrived from Miami Beach, a big friend of mine, which I knew in my expedition to Antarctic, in 2008. She’s a fantastic person, besides having a large culture, she’s a kind person, she took care of me so much, that I’ve started to call her Mama.
I’ve stayed very happy of having Mama here; she came to visit her sister and niece. For me, was so good to see her. I just started to frequent where they live, a beautiful place in Vancouver, called Deep Cove.
By the way, I’ve already had gone there some times during the winter. For me, is the most pleasant and beautiful of Vancouver. A small town, surrounded by mountains, a calm sea, and a lot of parks.
Annelise - Mama- invited me to do a walk up to the rock. I accepted the invitation. On Sunday, at 13 o’clock, I was at Mama’s sister house; they kept a lunch for me, a German colonial kind of lunch.
After, we followed by car, to the Deep Cove, we stopped in her niece’s house and walking, we went to the Deep Cove Beach, I’ve brought my camcorder and camera to take pictures, we passed the village on Sunday, the place was crowded of people, that also comes to appreciate this wonderful place.
The summer is coming, and the temperature goes around 20 degrees, and makes everybody live house. In the water, we saw people in kayaks and boats, enjoying the sunny weekend, that’s rarely in Vancouver.
On the grass, the Green, people lying or sleeping, some persons reading, the children playing and adventuring their selves in the water still cold. Others, by the parks, preparing their roasting, a picnic. Enjoying the 600 parks that British Columbia (BC) possess.
We’ve crossed the beach, and got to beginning of the trail, that would take us up to the rock, we would have a great view of all the Deep Cove region. There, exists some advertisement, to appoint what are the trails until the rock. Would be 19 km going, and the same to back, with an ascent of 165 meters. Looking the information, I thought it would be quick and simple.
Mama got a stick of the floor, using it as a support to the ascent, and I followed her. After, I passed her to take some pictures. I was just loving the trails, because the high pine trees, make an excellent environment, with the sun passing through the fronds.
On the ground, many old rocks, roots and trees. All the time some people were passing by us, going down the trail very pleasant. On the streams, there were very well-done bridges, with protection in the floor, to prevent that people slip in humid or raining days.
I was already gasping, and Mama was continuing very calm. She always walk in Miami, loves beach, and their clime. Of course, she also loves Deep Cove, so much, that she always stays one month there, with her family.
Besides people descending many times, people used to go down the trail, running though the rocks and roots. That was mesmerizing, and weren’t just young people that to this. At one of the bridges I look above, at the stream, and almost didn’t believe! Many bikes were coming, going down very fast and jumping on the rocks.
I took a lot of photos, but without clarity. They didn’t stay very good, and with clarity, would probably damage the image, but the walk was equally, very nice. They stopped in front of me, we exchanged ideas, and they continued, going down the mount.
The ascent was still hard. Some time later, in another bridge, we’ve met a couple with their babe on the back, he was very curious. We stopped to chat just a little bit, and according to the pleasantly of the couple, seamed that we were old friends. I was very excited with that environment, because of the great nature, Mama, and because of the nice people that we have met there.
I wasn’t time in that ascent, just a little gasp. I ran forward and sat, I stayed waiting for Mama that arrived very happy. For a moment, she sat at my side, and after, we continued going up and down.
So, the things started to be difficult, the 165 meters, became so much, so much more. Because each moment, we were going up and down a lot. Many people were in the opposite and in our flow. Some young people also passed by us, everybody very happy.
I stayed mesmerized that the people take their children, with about a year, in the back. I saw how the children enjoy it, some of them, I even saw singing, agitated each movement of their parents. Incredible how much exist this in Canada, the hiken, walks, and people carrying the babies to the walks, developing their interest about the nature and health.
It was a long ascent, but I almost didn’t feel that, because of the great trail, the beauties of the trees and mainly, the sympathy of the people. We achieved the top, I saw the rock and many people on it. I also ascent the rock and enjoyed the view, I saw the village at a side, and in the other side, the park, river, sea, I don’t know exactly, but I saw many boats and kayaks around there.
In front of us, there was a couple dating. I went there to appreciate the view so near the precipice, and saw another couple over there. Really, that was a great place to court. I looked behind be, and Mama was lying, relaxing looking to the blue sky, with some clouds in the horizon.
We stayed a long time there. Some persons were reading, others making picnic, many children. So, arrived the time of go back, or follow other trails. I asked Mama to take some pictures of me, and I did my traditional jump, in the more incredible places than I visit. I had to fly there, Mama was really concerned, she didn’t want to take my picture jumping, but a good one "mother" has to do what the son want! (Hehehe).
We decided to go down, there were other trails, but we let to other Day. The descending was very nice, we saw plants, there were some mature raspberries, we ate some while was descending. Now, less people were going up and down. We stayed a long time up there.
When we met some person carrying a baby, we surely stopped, to talk and admire the parents and the baby. The child used to be very active, this is very good, and not so much doing in Brazil. Mama frequently used to hug the trees, showing all the love she has about the nature.
There, without notice, we were already in the beach. We met four Chinese girls taking pictures. And, of course, we took some photos of them, and other for them. After this, we went to see the people in the kayaks. Mama promising me that would ride a kayak in the next day. Therefore, she rides kayaks always is possible, in the sea of Miami.
Each moment, was arriving some people by motorcycle, surrounding the village. To end the path, we gone to eat some ice-cream very interesting and flavorful. According to Mama, that was the Tiger ice-cream, kind of a tiger. Well, I loved it, it has the mixture of a tiger colors, and very delicious.
We return to the niece’s house, that was waiting us with the dinner. They live very near the beach, so, we enjoyed the environment of nature, their house is like a cabin, surrounded by pines and trees. It seamed that we were among the jungle.
And how about the very beautiful costumes and decorations of the house. Donna, who’s Mama’s niece, has a great talent to arts, mainly to sculpture many things. Stuffs that she does and place along the yard and house. I always stay hours there, just observing, and each moment, I discover new things, very creative and beautiful.
The dinner, was a wine and a barbecue, at the deck of the house, with a view of the sunset through the mountain. I was feeling a pleasant and light breeze, even a little cold. It was a great afternoon for me and surely, for Mama’s family.
Who come to visit Vancouver, I suggest that visit Deep Cove.
