Conheça a Expedição com o barco M/V Ushuaia... O trajeto que devemos fazer para conhecer a península Antártida.
Antarctica is one of the most beautiful and unexplored places in our planet. For over two centuries, the White Continent has attracted scientists and adventurers for its unmatched natural beauty. Nowadays, this frozen land has opened its doors to world travelers who have become mesmerized with its unique wildlife, its majestic icebergs and its superb scenario. The austral summer, from November to March, with its endless daylight renders the exploration unique.
The expedition leader will take voyagers to remote locations where only a few men have set foot on. While landing in zodiacs, large penguin colonies, magnificent whales, and breathtaking icebergs and glaciers will be at sight.
Voyages can usually last from 8 to 15 days, and even if the itinerary might be the same for all of them, its changing climate and the whims of stranded icebergs prevent the possibility that two voyages could be alike, the overwhelming and sometimes awesome views are never the same. If you ever decide to come back, the scenery will be different.
Another tourist possibility is to join us on board during logistic or research voyages. The duration and the itinerary of these voyages vary with each expedition.
The itinerary - The Classic Antarctica Expedition Cruise
The P/V “Ushuaia” starts out from the Tierra del Fuego Port of Ushuaia. We sail down the Beagle Channel, cross the Drake Passage to reach the Antarctic Peninsula and nearby islands.
Day 1: Depart from Ushuaia
We board the ship at 14:00 and depart Ushuaia at 19:00, then, sail through the Beagle Channel, the Mackinley Pass and we see the wreck of the Logos Ship.
Day 2 and 3: Crossing the Drake Passage
In open sea, we are followed by petrels and albatross. After passing the Antarctic Convergence (the real limit of the Antarctica), icebergs of various sizes and shapes decorate our course. In the afternoon/evening of day three, we reach the South Shetland Islands where we plan to make our first landing.
Days 4 and 5: Exploring Shetlands
We experience the dramatic world of the high ice-capped mountains and beautiful ice-filled fiords of the Antarctic Peninsula and its surrounding islands. Our plans include one or two Zodiac landings a day. Some of the possible areas of exploration include: Deception Island, with thousands of Chinstrap Penguins, and the possibility of an Antarctic swim in the volcanically heated hot springs of Pendulum Cove; King George Island, home of scientific bases from many different countries; Livingston Island, an enjoyable place where we can see Macaroni, chinstrap and gentoo penguins, and elephant seals resting on the beach.
Days 6 to 8: Exploring Antarctica Peninsula
The Gerlache Strait, the Neumayer Channel, and the Lemaire Channel, where there is the possibility of seeing whales swimming alongside our ship as we gaze with awe at the breathtaking scenery. On the Antarctic Peninsula itself, we plan to make landings at places like Paradise Bay, aptly named for its singular beauty. Among other possible landing sites are Paulet Island, Melchior Island, Cuverville Island, Portal Point, Neko Harbour, Pléneau Island and Petermann Islands, each one a treasure trove of wildlife and densely populated with penguins, petrels, and seals. On day eight, we leave Antarctica for the Drake Passage.
Days 9 and 10: At Sea North crossing the Drake Passage
We re-cross the Drake Passage. On day ten, we sail through the Beagle Channel in the early morning and depart the ship after breakfast, at Ushuaia.
Day 11: Arrive at Ushuaia Port 07:00 Hs.
The itinerary is subject to weather and ice conditions and IAATO's regulations.
