National Para-Alpine Racers come to Sun Peaks

TELUS Para-Alpine Canadian Championships, March 10-14

March 7, 2008 - Sun Peaks, BC - The Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team will be charging down the slopes of Sun Peaks Resort March 10th to 14th for the TELUS Para-alpine Canadian Championships. The whole 24 member team is expected to be in attendance for this event that wraps up the para-alpine season.

The four day event includes both Giant Slalom and Slalom races and competitors have more to think about than snow conditions. Paralympic competition involves athletes with physical disabilities, such as a spinal injury, amputation or blindness/visual impairment.

CPAST has had a fantastic season, finishing second behind Austria in the Nation's Cup standings. The para-alpine team won 12 Globes this year, more than any other nation, for overall points on the World Cup circuit.

The championships at Sun Peaks are a fantastic opportunity to see several Paralympic hopefuls in action. Lauren Woolstencroft, Chris Williamson and Kimberly Joines are all athletes to watch for as we head towards 2010.


The schedule for the TELUS Para-alpine Canadian Championships is as follows:

Monday, March 10th - Men/Ladies GS - Canadian championships race

Tuesday, March 11th - Men/Ladies GS - non-Canadian championships race

Wednesday, March 12th - Men/Ladies SL - Canadian championships race

Thursday, March 13th - Men/Ladies SL - non-Canadian championships race

Taking place the same week as the Para-alpine championships at Sun Peaks is the Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing (CADS) Ski Improvement and Race Development Festival. Disabled skiers and snowboarders from across the country will take part in lessons, instructor training and fun recreational races for the whole family.
